Casa Acqua Dolce finished!

Our new house in Oprtalj is now fully decorated. The result is really stunning. This house combines the impression of being in an old high-class town house, with the sensation of modern architecture. We used original Istrian building materials and combined this with wooden doors we bought in Belgium and furniture that comes from Italy, Belgium and Croatia.

Again the view, especially from the living, is breathtaking. The equipment will satisfy even the most demanding customer. This goes especially for the kitchen, heating system (with floor heating) and wellness.

We have been able to maintain the flavour of the original house. In all rooms parts of the old stonewall are still visible. On the first floor you can still see the 12th century city rampant (defence wall) of Oprtalj on which the original house was built. In the living, a part of the typical Tuscan-like wall construction can be seen. Large and small stones and bricks have been used. Even original Roman bricks can be recognised. We also kept the original roof showing an incredibly complicated roof structure with original insulating brick roof tiles.

Remarkable are also the "tadelact" bathrooms. Tadelact is an ancient technique for waterproof plastering of bathing areas in Morocco, using chalk, olive oil and black soap. To cover walls with tadelact is an extremely time-consuming business. Aline and a group of seven supporters worked for a week to realise these bathrooms. But the result is fantastic. Taking a shower in these rooms gives you a special sensation. You have to try it out yourself!

As for the wellness, when entering one is overwhelmed with a feeling of luxury. The used stone materials combined with the blue colour of water and lighting give an overall warm and balanced impression. The interior design makes the wellness very spacious. The equipment installed will satisfy even the most demanding guests. We have a pool with water stream jet; a sauna; a Jacuzzi; a massage mattress; showers with warm walls; a footbath with cuddle wall; and a spacious relax area. And this all just for you!!!

And last but not least, when living in the house one learns to appreciate the special location and orientation. Protected from the ferocious "Bura" storms; with a splendid view over a Tuscan-like landscape from all windows at the street side and an intimate view on a medieval city at the back; with a front-door terrace blessed with the morning sun and shade in the afternoon; and with the main terrace from where, on a clear day, one can see as far as the Adriatic Sea and the Alpine mountains and with the ideal orientation for enjoying the afternoon sun. Our ancestors knew where and how to build a house.

But the best way to appreciate all this, is to come and see for yourself. We look forward to receive you in our new house.
