In Istria they recently opened a new tourist attraction: the 'Parenzana' or road of health and friendship.  

The Parenzana is a new (mountain-)bike and walking road that uses the old railroad track between Trieste and Porec (Parenza in Latin). This rail road was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century. Napoleon used its tracks to melt canons. Today it connects Trieste, Koper, Buje, Groznjan, Oprtalj, Motovun and Visnijan. It passes lush natural areas, many small Istrian mountain villages and small cities. It brings you to undiscovered places of extraordinary beauty, somthing far away from the usual tourist destinations.
